Soldier to face death for murder of civilian in Kismayo

A military court in Kismayo has sentenced to death a soldier who was found guilty of killing a civilian in the southern Somali city.

The court sitting in Kismayo Saturday condemned Farah Abdirashid Elmi to face the firing squad for the murder of Abdi Muhumed in Abdalla-Birole village in the outskirts of Kismayo.

An accomplice to the murder, Mohamed Rashid got a three year jail term for what the court described as ‘aiding in the commitment of murder’.

Court judge Bashir Mohamed Bashe said the Court established beyond reasonable doubt based on witness testimonies that the two were responsible for the murder of the Muhumed.

The defendants have 21 days to appeal the case.
